I have a degree in Chemistry from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto since July 2019. In the first year of my degree I was awarded by the Portuguese Society of Chemistry together with the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, a merit award for performance in the 2016/2017 National Competition for Access and Admission to Higher/Public Education. In the second curricular year, I received the school award Prof. Doctor Fernando Serrão (Chemistry) by the director Professor Doctor António Silva. The project developed in the last year of my degree aroused interest in Organic Chemistry and in the Pharmaceutical and Medicinal area, leading me to join the Master in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto in 2019. The master's degree, and more specifically the elaboration of the thesis, allowed a more realistic contact with the everyday life on a research laboratory. It was vital to improve my laboratory and scientific skills from methodologies of synthesis, purification and characterization of organic compounds. I also had the opportunity to participate in the 2nd edition of SIFFUP – Research Symposium of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto and later in the IJUP'21 – 14th Youth Research Meeting of the University of Porto, with two oral communications focusing the enantioselective synthesis and enantiomeric purity evaluation by HPLC of flavonoids with potential antitumor activity. After completing my master's degree, i woerked as a research fellow on a sustainable environmental project “Cork2Cosmetic - Valorização de subprodutos da indústria corticeira com vista ao desenvolvimento de produtos cosméticos” - (nº 47239 - NORTE-01-0247-FEDER-047239) in the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry and Pharmaceuticals from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto. By the end of the project and encouraged to pursue an academic career, I began my PhD programme where I continue the subject started in my dissertation thanks to the promising results. The main goal is to amplify the flavonoid library with more high (bio)degradable compounds as well as improve selectivity towards tumor cells. During my journey in the organic and pharmaceutical chemistry laboratory, I helped some undergraduate Biochemistry students in their final project and Master's degree students in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
