Maria João Teixeira

Maria João Teixeira is a PhD candidate in Forensic Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Laboratory Sciences from CESPU, a postgraduate degree in Forensic Expertise, and a Master’s degree in Forensic Sciences with a specialization in Forensic Medicine, both from FMUP. Her research interests lie at the intersection of Forensic Science and Microbiology, particularly in the application of microbial and biochemical methodologies to support forensic investigations. Maria João began her scientific path in 2016 with a microbiology internship at the School of Biotechnology of the Portuguese Catholic University, where she developed a strong foundation in laboratory techniques and discovered her passion for research. Throughout her academic career, she has gained solid experience in microbiological and forensic analyses, with competencies spanning classical and molecular microbiology, bacterial culture, and laboratory-based forensic methodologies. Her scientific output includes two published articles and one manuscript currently in preparation. She has also presented her work through posters at national scientific meetings, contributing to the dissemination of forensic and microbiological research. Maria João is now continuing her academic career through doctoral research, motivated by the advancement of forensic methodologies and the integration of scientific evidence into justice. She is committed to contributing to innovative research and is open to collaborations within the fields of forensic science and microbiology research.
