Odilia Queiros is is an Associate Professor of Biochemistry at the University Institute of Health Sciences (IUCS) of CESPU. PhD in Biological Sciences (Sciences School of University of Minho, 2002/02/21), Master in Molecular Genetics (Sciences School of University of Minho, 1995) and BSc in Biochemistry (Sciences Faculty of University of Porto). Guest Editor in the Journal International Journal for Molecular Sciences and Pharmaceutics in MDPI AG. Published 38 articles in journals and has h-index 19 (Scopus Author ID: 6506717929) and 18 (Google Scholar ). Has 5 section(s) of books. Supervised/supervises 3 PhD thesis(es) and co-supervised/supervises 3. Supervised 11 MSc dissertation(s) and co-supervised 2. Has received 5 awards and/or honors. Participates and/or participated as Principal investigator in 6 project(s) and Researcher in 11 project(s). She is/was guest editor of four special issues in MDPI journals. Works in the area(s) of Medical and Health Sciences with emphasis on Health Sciences. Her research is focused in the study of cancer cell metabolism and in the antitumor activity of drugs acting on metabolic targets as well as on the study of molecular mechanisms associated with multidrug resistance (MDR) phenotype in cancer cells. Her research aims also to study the molecular mechanisms associated with microenvironment characterisitcs in cancer, namely associated to cancer cell metabolism and with the expression of pH regulators . The assessment of the role of MDR genes in the response to antitumor agents using in models of simple eukaryotes, such as yeast, for the heterologous expression of different variants of the genes, is also a research goal. More recently, she has being studying the potential use of chiral derivatives of flavonoids and xhantones as antitumor agents and their mechanism of action in cancer cells.
